We’ve come a long way in the last three decades, reclaiming a healthy portion of consumer waste in our service area and preventing it from clogging the landfills. But we always thought, “What if we could do more?” Our research and development department has been hard at work trying to answer that question and we’re hot on the trail to an exciting solution. In the near future, CR&R hopes to be among just a handful of solid waste companies in the U.S. with the ability to turn the non-recyclable portion of the wastestream that currently goes to the landfill into electricity and liquid fuels such as ethanol. This renewable power is the wave of the future and not only will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and our dwindling supply of fossil fuels, but will help reduce air emissions that create smog and greenhouse gases.
